Jimena de la Frontera is a village in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia southern Spain.

Officially declared of Historical and Artistic Importance in 1983. Its narrow cobbled streets and and typical white Andalusian houses and it's beautiful surroundings of unspoilt landscapes makes it a very picturesque place to visit.

Locals in the village are very friendly and enjoy interacting with passing visitors. There are plenty of cheap, charming and authentic tapas bars. The population of Jimena is aprox 4500.

Built around an 8th century castle and located in the natural park of the Alcornocales (Cork Oak forest). The Natural Park is famous for it's wildlife and prehistoric cave paintings. Local cuisine involves venison, mushrooms, cooked with some arabic influence. Fish is brought from the Mediterrean and Atlantic sea which is 30 minutes by car. The typical desert is the famous "piñonate de Jimena". The Hozgarganta which is the river that flows around Jimena is beautifully clean where you swim from spring to autumn.

Jimena is situated on the Algeciras-Granada trainline. The beautiful city of Ronda is 1 away by train and Granada is a 4 hour journey. For a day of sunbathing in the mediterranean sea is a 30 minute drive. Or the Atlantic Ocean at Tarifa is a 50 min drive.

Jimena is situated in the heart of the natural park of "Los Alcornocales". We organize walking tours with local guides. There are different types of walks and duration. Please send us and email and we will let you know. We also have book with different walks, which we can help you with.

Without a doubt, this inland mountain town has become a peace haven for those who wish to escape from mass tourism and enjoy the traditional gastronomy. In Jimena de la Frontera you will soon notice the legacy of Romans and Arabs in emblematic buildings like the castle.

Definitely the ideal place to breathe some fresh air and enjoy one of the most charming places of Andalusia.

One of the best flamenco dancers "bailaora" from Spain is from here. Her name is Lucía Alvarez "La Piñona". Worth checking out on YouTube.
